On hearing the call to prayer (adhan)

On hearing the call to prayer (adhan): 5 supplications in Arabic with English translation and sources, from the Fortress of the Muslim (Hisn al-Muslim).

Repeat what the muezzin says, except at “Hayya ʿala s-salah” (come to prayer) and “Hayya ʿala l-falah” (come to success), where one says: “There is no power and no might except with Allah.”

After the muezzin’s declaration of faith, say: “And I too bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship but Allah, alone, without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger. I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Muhammad as messenger and with Islam as religion.”

After answering the muezzin, send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and of the prayer about to be established, grant Muhammad the eminent station (al-wasila) and the distinction (al-fadila), and raise him to the praised station You have promised him. [You never fail in Your promise.]

Make supplication for oneself between the adhan and the iqama: supplication at that time is not rejected.
